Jelly Roll Morton and his Scene

Ida Cox, Friar's Society Orchestra, Chauncey Moorehouse, Jimmy Wade, Clarence Moton
Herman 'Ivory' Chittison, Ray Nance, Gene Schroeder, Washboard Wonders, Lena Horne

This collection is dedicated to one of the greatest figures of old Jazz. It's about the legendary Ferdinand Joseph La Menthe, better known by his pseudonym Jelly Roll Morton.

Morton has not only produced fantastic recordings, but was also a gifted composer who composed many famous jazz standards. Our goal was to collect over the years the whole musical work of this master of Jazz. We believe that we have accomplished this.

This special collection is small, but of high quality; it consists of:
- about 1000 rare 78s
- about 2000 LPs

Moreover several hundreds CDs, books, piano rolls and thousands of other objects such as photographs, letters and leaflets complete the image of Morton and his scene. The whole special collection is exposed in a separate room, specially reserved for it. All items of the collection are precisely documented in a 150 page catalogue, which just got a second printing. At this point we would like to thank Monsieur Roger Richard de Lamotte from France for his significant contribution.
