What you should know
Until recently the Jazz Museum Bix Eiben Hamburg was a purely private
activity. But in the course of the last years we have been able to
create the premises permitting to bring together all the material
collected over decades.
Actually, the major part of the collection is housed in a building of 900 m² floor space, but which originally had not been planned to be used as a museum.
For this reason, the collections which had been stored in different separated locations for lack of space, could only be integrated in the new building by dispatching them into the different available rooms.
This is the origin of the "sections" represented in the web pages below. The covers of the respective sections reproduce exactly the covers of the books in which the different material is listed.
In the near future an extension of the existing building, precisely adapted to the needs of the museum, will be built and the new space will change the whole exposition of the material.
The catalogue work is continuing. Its progress will be documented accordingly in our internet pages and the information will be frequently updated. The scanned picture material of all listed records is gathered in folios and the catalogue data are available in digital format.
Please pay attention to the streamed music of the web pages. It shows
the musical center of our collector's passion. All titles are in the
public domain, and as they have been copied from our old 78s, the
quality of the compressed sound is not always up to our expectation.
